National Association of Wheat Growers leadership met with congressional leaders to provide input on the farm bill. NAWG Chief Executive Officer Chandler Goule questions if there will be enough votes in the House to block harmful amendments. In the Upper Chamber, language sponsored by South Dakota Senator John Thune and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is a concern. Currently, ARC uses the previous five-year Olympic average of prices and yields to determine the benchmark price. The Thune/Brown proposal uses a different formula which would impact the benchmark revenue. “We don’t want to go below (the current PLC price of) $5.50. We’re already at 71 percent of cost of production, while other commodities are in the high 80s. If we did anything, we’d want the PLC reference price to go up.”
