For the first six months of its fiscal year, the Australian-based GrainCorp had net profits of $27 million. That’s down from $68 million last year. The grain handling company was hurt by a 40 percent decline in crop production for eastern Australia. GrainCorp CEO Mark Palmquist, who previously was an executive for CHS, said the company has closely monitored its costs.
