On Tuesday, President Donald Trump sat down with Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey and Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst to discuss the Renewable Fuel Standard. Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says the ethanol and oil industries found common ground. “We were told two things. One, the administration is going to make sure consumers can buy E15 year round. The other is no more conversations about a RIN cap.” There is also speculation the Administration would support a RIN to ethanol exports, but the details are sketchy. “There’s a lot of problems with that,” says Skor. “First of all, it’s not allowed for in the Renewable Fuel Standard. The RFS is very specifically about increasing domestic use of biofuels. We also know there can be trade implications. An export RIN could be considered a subsidy by global trading partners who could challenge the move.”
