Informa Economics Senior Vice-President Jim Wiesemeyer says the House farm bill process is the ugliest he’s ever seen. “The leadership is trying in earnest to explain things and then, if they don’t, we’ll see what type of amendments will be allowed to be debated out of the rules committee. That’s always an unknown. The House Rules Committee can do what they want. I always wait for that. If there is a draconian amendment, if they want to kill the bill, that’s the way to do it.” If the conservatives don’t like features of the House bill, they definitely won’t like the conference report. “(House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member) Collin Peterson, dictated by (House Minority Leader) Nancy Pelosi, has already said he will clearly favor the Senate bill. Then, the question becomes, what resulting conference bill will you get?”
