The markets go up and down, but Citizens Elevator Vice President of Grain Angie Setzer says there has been a calming effect on the trade. “The potential trade war still remains the 500-pound gorilla in the room. However, it’s quieted down,” says Setzer. “Three weeks ago, it felt as though I was trading in the loudest time period I’ve ever experienced.” While farmers were waiting for spring fieldwork, they had more time to consider future marketing decisions. Setzer adds that opportunity hasn’t presented itself for a few years. “Having time to make a decision definitely helps improve one’s mindset. The fact that we’ve had several weeks of solid, upward market trend has been helpful.”
