According to House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson, there could be an amendment to eliminate the sugar program when the bill comes to the House floor. “It sounds like Chairman Conaway is getting some Freedom Caucus people in line. If he does that, he may be able to pass it. The problem is, how will he pass a bill when it comes back with no food stamp changes. It will either be that or no bill. How does he deal?” Another issue that has Peterson’s attention is the gray wolf legislation. Peterson’s staff met with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy Wednesday on how to proceed. “The suggestion is they’re going to find a must-pass bill and they’ll attach it. We have the votes. I’ve been told this four times and four times I’ve been double-crossed, so we’ll see.”
