As of May 1, Minnesota’s B20 mandate takes effect. Minnesota Soybean senior director of product development and commercialization Mike Youngerberg says the mandate provides another market for soybean oil. “We’ve got great markets for soybean protein, but soybean oil has always been a struggle. The opportunity to utilize more biodiesel creates oil demand that balances out the value between the soybean protein portion and the soybean oil portion.” Biodiesel represents 63 cents out of every bushel of soybeans sold. With the launch of B20, the Minnesota Soybean Checkoff will be surprising people at the pump with free prizes.
