Late Thursday, President Donald Trump directed Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to implement a plan to protect farmers and agricultural interests. “In many respects I think we could have a fantastic relationship long-term with China, but we have to get this straightened out. We need balance,” said Trump. At an event in West Virginia, Trump also offered insight into the North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations. “We’re working hard on NAFTA with Mexico and Canada. We’ll have something fairly soon. My people wanted it done before I make a trip to Peru. They said, let’s have NAFTA before that. I said, don’t rush it. Take it nice and easy. There’s no rush. We’ll get it done right or we’ll terminate.”
