China has imposed an additional 25 percent duty on U.S. pork. That’s on top of a 12 percent tariff already in place. Minnesota Pork Producers Association CEO David Preisler says the tariffs have already hurt the hog market. “Various economists are saying the impact is in the $6-to-$8 per head. Looking at Minnesota, we market about 60 million head of pigs each year. Do the math and it comes up to a fairly big number.”
