A Section 301 investigation found China violated trade rules in the global computer chip market. However, the Trump Administration does not plan to impose new tariffs on semiconductor imports from China until June of 2027. This investigation began a year ago under President Joe Biden. The delayed tariff response from the current White House is seen as part of a trade ceasefire between the U.S. and China that began when Trump met with Chinese President Xi this past October in South Korea.
