Drought conditions across the region could mean more crop insurance claims once harvest is complete. Bethany Rentz says conditions changed quickly after what appeared to be a decent start to the growing season. “We started out the spring with what we thought was adequate moisture.” That changed rapidly once the calendar turned to July. “Now, in most of the areas that we’re at, we have D2, D3 drought so that’s changed the trajectory of the way the crops looked and how our production is going to yield. I think we’re gonna be up against a lot of claims for this fall after harvest wraps up.” Rentz says good records can help move a claim along more quickly.
