Shipping disruptions in the Black Sea are adding uncertainty to global wheat trade. NDSU Extension Crops Economist Frayne Olson says recent disruptions can “throw some real, real wrinkles into the supply chains.” For buyers, the timing is critical. “If you’ve ordered wheat from either Ukraine or from Russia, and all of a sudden that vessel doesn’t arrive in time, that causes a huge amount of problems for you as a buyer.” Olson says continued disruptions could create additional export opportunities and support prices for U.S. wheat.
