Brazil is taking its trade dispute with the United States to the World Trade Organization. The Brazilian government has requested formal consultations over new U.S. tariffs, including a 25 percent duty on most Brazilian products and an additional 12.5 percent tariff tied to forced labor allegations. Brazil argues the duties violate WTO rules and international trade agreements. The consultations are the first step in the WTO dispute process and could lead to a formal trade case if the two countries fail to reach a resolution within 60 days.
