Ag Antitrust Investigations Are #9 Ag Story of ’25

In the Red River Farm Network countdown of the top agricultural stories of 2025, the #9 ranked story is the renewed focus on competition within the agribusiness sector. The Justice Department and USDA are collaborating on an investigation into potential antitrust violations in meatpacking, seed and chemical, fertilizer and farm equipment. In an interview with the Red River Farm Network, Deputy Agriculture Secretary Stephen Vaden said this threat extends to the ‘right to repair’ issue. “When you’re buying a piece of equipment that costs more than a Rolls-Royce, you have more choices on where you can buy it and what you can do with it; we have a problem.”
