RFID technology is revolutionizing cattle management, offering producers a quick and accurate way to track and manage their animals. David McElhenney, Merck Animal Health, said it gathers essential data on each animal, including vaccines, shots, feed, and performance information. “What it does is help a person aggregate more data on that animal to help them access more market channels because that makes the data more transportable and easier to move to the next person in the chain.” The technology uses a chip, which is read using handheld or stationary readers. Farmers and ranchers interested in learning more about the system can visit Merck.com.
