Corn and soybean prices might be causing farmers to tighten their belts this year. “There’s a lot of opportunity to both save dollars with diesel fuel and all of the equipment expenses without sacrificing soybean yields,” says Seth Naeve, University of Minnesota. “Reducing tillage is an option.” According to Naeve, decreasing seed treatments could also be a way to save on input costs during tighter years.
