This invasive insect is native to Mexico and was first detected in the United States in the 1940s. The insect has expanded since that time. In September, there was a significant infestation on V4-to-V5 corn in a trial plot near the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. The corn leafhopper is a vector for corn stunting diseases. Seed treatments are considered an effective management tool.
