As reported last week, the United States and European Union have ended a dispute over steel and aluminum tariffs. Association of Equipment Manufacturers Senior Vice President Kip Eideberg says this is positive news for the farm equipment business. “We should see prices of steel start to come down and we should see the availability of steel come up which means we will be able to produce farm equipment in a much more competitive way.” That should eventually translate into a more competitive farm equipment prices. Eideberg says this tariff action may also influence the overall trade relationship with the European Union. “One issue has been access for U.S. farmers and ranchers to European customers; this is still a substantial trade irratant in this relationship.”
