The U.S. Climate Prediction Center has declared La Nina is officially here. USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says one indication of La Nina is the drought conditions across the country. “There’s been an increase in drought coverage. We had only about one-tenth of the country in drought as recently as February and we’ve seen a sharp increase in drought coverage to about 40 percent of the country at present.” La Nina typically results in cooler, wetter weather in the Northern Plains.
