Scab risk for susceptible wheat varieties across North Dakota is expected to increase in the next few days. NDSU Extension Cereal Pathologist Andrew Friskop tells farmers to know their spring wheat stage. “We’re in that window where we see a lot of spring wheat is out out heading. Alot of it is in flowering right now. People are thinking about scab and whether or not they should be making a fungicide application.” Friskop expects the scab risk to increase. “As we start looking into the end of this week, we do see some rain. Know the growth stage you have in your field, the level of susceptibility and start looking at the rain and pending weather.”
